The Office of Student Success Services
Unit Mission
The mission of Student Success Services is to advocate for, support, and empower students to persist and progress toward graduation through efficient, holistic, and appreciative advising. By creating an equitable environment for our diverse student population, we will promote the benefits and value of a liberal arts education, foster student development and success, and stimulate academic and career exploration. It is also our mission to collaborate with campus partners to ensure continuity of service and provide an excellent educational experience for our students.
Two-Tier Academic Advising Model
Jarvis Christian University takes a student-centered approach when it comes to assisting students with reaching their academic potential by implementing the Two-Tier Academic Advising Model. Two-Tier advising is a collaborative model used by Jarvis Christian Faculty and Professional Academic Advisors which approaches advising at two progressive levels: Tier One and Tier Two. Tier one is developmental advising carried out by Student Success Services (SSS) until the student has earned 60 hours, and in Tier Two, the student will be transitioned to their faculty advisor until matriculation from the University. This model establishes an ongoing intentional relationship between advisors and/or faculty and students.
First-Year Experience (FYE)
FYE is a course designed to help students make the transition from high school to college. The class meets on Thursdays from 11:00 am to 11:50 a.m. Each week the class focuses on a topic that provides information and opportunities that will lead students to have a successful college experience.
